Immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Abu Dhabi with a visit to Qasr Al Hosn, the city's oldest standing structure. This iconic landmark, surrounded by the glittering skyline of modern Abu Dhabi, offers a captivating glimpse into the past. Built in the 1790s, Qasr Al Hosn was once home to the ruling family and served as the National Consultative Council. After a decade of intensive conservation and restoration work, it has been transformed into a museum, preserving the heritage of the UAE capital. Step inside the Al Hosn fort and be transported back in time. Explore the Inner Fort, constructed in 1795, and the Outer Palace, built between 1939-45. Marvel at the original watchtower, which once protected the growing community of Abu Dhabi. As you wander through the museum, you'll discover artifacts and archival materials dating back 6,000 years. From ancient crafts like Al-Sadu weaving and Khoos palm leaf braiding to the intricate Talli embroidery, the House of Artisans within Qasr Al Hosn showcases the traditional crafts of the Emirates. Nearby, you'll find the Cultural Foundation, a hub for Abu Dhabi's fine art community. Explore dedicated studio spaces and a renovated 900-seat theater, or step into the Abu Dhabi Children's Library, designed as a life-size pop-up book. End your tour with a visit to Bait Al Gahwa, where you can experience an authentic Arabic coffee ceremony and savor the flavors of the Middle East.

Qasr Al Hosn is an absolute gem in the heart of Abu Dhabi. It’s beautifully preserved, deeply authentic, and thoughtfully curated — you can genuinely feel the history in the walls. The architecture is simple yet powerful, and the use of natural materials, low windows, and soft lighting creates a calm, almost meditative atmosphere. It’s not flashy or over-restored; it tells a story of real desert life, culture, and resilience. If you want to understand the roots of the UAE beyond skyscrapers and luxury, this is the place to come. Peaceful, elegant, and truly special.

Al Hosn Festival is a wonderful annual celebration of Emirati heritage, culture, and creativity. The festival showcases local handicrafts, traditional items, cuisine, and cultural experiences, and the 2026 edition lived up to the same high standards as always. The arrangements were excellent and very well organized, with plenty of traditional performances, engaging display stalls, and a great mix of local and fusion food outlets. One of the standout highlights was the painting exhibition by local artists, along with the free guided tour of the Postal Stamps Museum. Our guide was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable, beautifully narrating the history and evolution of stamps and postal services in UAE history. A truly enriching experience and a must visit festival for anyone interested in Emirati culture and heritage.

I visited Qasr Al Hosn (قصر الحصن) and it was an unforgettable experience. The fort is one of the oldest and most iconic buildings in Abu Dhabi, beautifully restored to preserve its history. Inside, there are interactive exhibits, photographs, and artifacts that tell the story of Abu Dhabi’s transformation from a small fishing village to a modern city. The architecture is stunning, especially the white stone walls, courtyards, and towers. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and there are often traditional performances, workshops, and cultural events taking place. Located in the heart of the city, it’s easy to reach and surrounded by other attractions like the House of Artisans and Erth Restaurant. Overall, Qasr Al Hosn is a must-see destination for history lovers, tourists, and locals who want to connect with the UAE’s heritage. Great location with nearby cafés and attractions

Beautiful historical gem in the city. Surrounded by tall CBD business centers this old castle is gorgeous. We visited early October, it was 35C hot day. Rooms in the castle do not have aircons. Come prepared, grab a fan or smth to keep you cool. Ticket should be purchased in the building next door House of Artisans. Note - they DON’t take cash! House of Artisans is also a great spot to visit.
